Getting Started

What ages do you offer classes for?

Black Hills Gymnastics offers programs for children beginning at 18 months through age 18, with classes designed for different ages, abilities, and experience levels.

Does my child need gymnastics experience?

Not at all! We offer classes for beginners as well as athletes with previous gymnastics experience.

Our progressive class structure allows children to build strong fundamentals and advance as they're ready.

Can my child try a class before enrolling?

Yes! Families have two ways to get started:

Option 1: Take a paid trial class.
Choose the trial option when requesting your class and indicate that you'd like to attend as a paid trial.

After your child tries the class, simply let us know if you'd like to continue with enrollment.

Option 2: Enroll with our money-back guarantee.
Choose the class that works for your schedule and request active enrollment. If, after your child's first class and before their second class, you decide the program isn't the right fit, contact us to cancel and receive a refund according to our guarantee.

Classes are offered year-round on a month-to-month basis, and your first month's tuition is prorated based on the number of classes remaining in that month.

Annual registration fees apply to full enrollment.

What should my child wear to gymnastics?

Children should wear comfortable, fitted athletic clothing that allows them to move safely.

For girls, a leotard is recommended. If your child doesn't have one yet, fitted athletic shorts and a snug-fitting T-shirt are also appropriate.

Boys may wear athletic shorts and a T-shirt.

Please avoid baggy clothing and jewelry, which can interfere with movement or equipment. Long hair should be pulled back securely.

What should my child bring to class?

Your child doesn't need to bring much! A water bottle is encouraged, but not required—BHG also has a water fountain available.

Gymnasts participate barefoot, so shoes and socks should be removed before entering the gymnastics floor. Personal belongings can be stored in the cubbies located just before the gym floor.

Please label water bottles and other personal items with your child's name.

Enrollment & Tuition

How do I enroll my child?

You can request enrollment online through our website or Parent Portal, by phone, or by visiting our front desk.

How much does gymnastics cost?

Tuition varies depending on the program, class length, and frequency of attendance.

Current pricing is available with our class listings, or our front desk can help you find a class and explain the associated tuition.

Is there a registration fee?

Yes. An annual registration fee is due upon enrollment and varies by program:

• Gymnastics: $60 per student
• Ninja Zone: $70 per student
• Black Hills Early Learning Academy: $110 per student

Registration fees are charged for a maximum of two students per family. Additional students in the same family do not pay an additional registration fee.

Military families receive 50% off the registration fee. Please let our team know if your family qualifies for the military discount.

Are classes session-based or year-round?

BHG classes are offered year-round on a month-to-month basis.

When joining partway through a month, your first month's tuition is prorated based on the remaining classes.

How do I withdraw from a class?

To withdraw from a class, submit a drop request through your Parent Portal.

BHG requires 30 days' notice for all class withdrawals. Families are responsible for tuition during the 30-day notice period.

Tuition is processed on the 20th of each month for the following month's classes. If your 30-day notice period ends partway through a month, your tuition will be prorated accordingly.

Attendance & Makeup Classes

What happens if my child misses class?

Because BHG maintains specific student-to-coach ratios, tuition is not prorated for missed classes or scheduled holidays.

Students receive one makeup credit per month for each weekly class in which they're enrolled:

1 class per week → 1 makeup credit per month
2 classes per week → 2 makeup credits per month

Makeup credits expire 30 days after they are issued and are subject to class availability. We recommend scheduling makeup classes in advance, although same-day makeups may be available if there is space in an appropriate class.

What happens if BHG cancels a class?

If BHG must cancel a regularly scheduled class—for example, because of severe weather or a home competition—an additional makeup will be provided according to BHG's makeup policy.

Safety & Class Policies

How does BHG help keep athletes safe?

Safety is incorporated into our coaching, equipment, class structure, and skill progressions.

Our coaches use progressive instruction to help athletes develop the strength, technique, and body control needed before advancing to more difficult skills. BHG also maintains its gymnastics equipment and has procedures in place for injuries and emergencies.

What happens if my child is injured during class?

If an injury occurs, BHG staff will assess the situation, provide appropriate first aid, and notify the child's parent or guardian.

When emergency medical attention is necessary, staff will follow BHG emergency procedures and contact emergency services.

Can parents watch classes?

Yes! Parents and caregivers are welcome to watch classes from our upstairs viewing area.

If you need an accommodation that allows you to remain downstairs, please contact our office staff. We're happy to help arrange an appropriate viewing option.

Can siblings play on the equipment while we're waiting?

For everyone's safety, siblings and other children who are not participating in a scheduled class may not use any gymnastics equipment while waiting.

Children should remain with their parent or caregiver in the designated waiting or viewing areas.

Competitive Gymnastics

Does BHG have competitive gymnastics teams?

Yes! Black Hills Gymnastics offers several competitive pathways, including Team Prep, Xcel Girls Team, Girls Development Program, and Boys Team.

Placement on competitive teams is based on factors such as skill level, readiness, coach evaluation, and program availability.

How much time do competitive gymnasts train?

Training commitments vary significantly by program and competitive level. Competitive athletes generally train multiple days each week, with training hours increasing as athletes progress.

Families receive specific expectations for their athlete's program and level.

What does competitive gymnastics cost?

Competitive gymnastics involves expenses beyond regular tuition, which may include meet entry fees, uniforms, travel, USAG membership, and other team-related costs.

Because expenses vary by program and level, detailed information is provided to families considering a competitive team placement.

Camps, Parties & Special Events

Does BHG offer birthday parties?

Yes! BHG birthday parties give kids an opportunity to jump, climb, tumble, play, and celebrate with their friends in the gym.

Party packages accommodate up to 15 children at the base rate, with options available for additional participants.

Does BHG offer camps?

Yes! BHG offers camps during summer and select school breaks, including options for younger and older children.

Camp activities combine gymnastics with games, open play, crafts, and other activities. Families can often register for an entire week or select individual camp days.

Does BHG offer Open Gym?

Yes! BHG offers Open Gym on select dates throughout the year, giving kids additional opportunities to practice, tumble, play, and enjoy time in the gym.
