Competitive Team Programs
Train With Purpose. Compete With Confidence.
At Black Hills Gymnastics, our competitive programs are designed for athletes who are ready to challenge themselves, set ambitious goals, and take their gymnastics to the next level.
Competitive gymnastics requires commitment, perseverance, discipline, and hard work—but we believe athletes can pursue excellence while still loving the sport.
Our coaches provide structured, progressive training in a supportive team environment where athletes develop strong fundamentals, advanced skills, competitive experience, and the confidence that comes from working toward meaningful goals.
From an athlete's first steps toward competitive gymnastics to higher-level competition, BHG is committed to helping each gymnast grow as an athlete, teammate, and individual.
The BHG Competitive Pathway
Our competitive programs provide opportunities for athletes with different goals, abilities, and levels of commitment. Coaches help determine the program and training environment that best supports each athlete's continued development.
Team Prep Program

The Next Step Toward Competitive Gymnastics
Team Prep serves as a bridge between instructional gymnastics and the BHG competitive team program.
Athletes in Team Prep begin experiencing the increased structure, training expectations, and skill development associated with competitive gymnastics while preparing for a potential transition to one of our competitive teams.
Most athletes spend approximately one year in Team Prep, although progression is based on individual readiness and coach recommendation.
Team Prep athletes typically train
4–6 hours per week, developing the strength, flexibility, technique, discipline, and foundational skills needed for competitive gymnastics.
XCEL Girls Team Program
Competition With Flexibility
The USA Gymnastics Xcel program provides athletes with an opportunity to experience competitive gymnastics while allowing greater flexibility in skill selection and training than a traditional Development Program pathway.
BHG Xcel athletes train and compete as part of a team while developing individual routines, skills, confidence, and competitive experience.
For many gymnasts, Xcel provides an opportunity to pursue their love of gymnastics and experience the excitement of competition while maintaining time for other interests and activities.

Girls Development Team Program

Building Skills for Higher-Level Competition
The Girls Development Program provides a progressive competitive pathway for gymnasts committed to advancing their skills and competing at increasingly challenging levels.
BHG athletes develop strength, flexibility, technique, artistry, and competitive routines while learning the discipline and perseverance required in competitive gymnastics.
Just as importantly, we emphasize the qualities that make a strong teammate and athlete: respect, accountability, resilience, sportsmanship, and supporting one another.
Our goal is to help athletes pursue their competitive potential while developing qualities they can carry far beyond the gym.
Boys Team Program
Strength. Skill. Teamwork. Competition.
The BHG Boys Team provides athletes with a dedicated environment for developing men's gymnastics skills and progressing through competitive levels.
Our facility offers extensive training space and equipment for men's gymnastics, giving athletes opportunities to develop skills across the men's events while working through safe, progressive training.
BHG's coaches emphasize strong fundamentals, proper technique, strength, discipline, teamwork, and continued skill development as athletes prepare for competition.
We're proud of the accomplishments of our boys program and, even more importantly, of the work our athletes put in every day to continue improving.

More Than Medals
Competition gives athletes opportunities to test their skills and celebrate their hard work, but success at BHG isn't measured only by scores, placements, or medals.
It's also found in the athlete who keeps working after a difficult meet. The teammate cheering from the sidelines. The gymnast who finally masters a skill they've worked toward for months. And the confidence that comes from discovering how much dedication can accomplish.
We train athletes to compete—but we also want them to grow through the experience.
